Parents, the Basics approach is different than the current youth BB model because we believe competition should not be forced upon the kids before they have sharp skills.  And when we do compete, we will CONTINUE TO INSTRUCT during the scrimmaging.  This approach has led to nearly 100 Basics grads at the college level now including 11 at the D-1 level.  HIGHLY RECOMMENDED analysis from the National HS Basketball Coaches Assn on the topic of Youth Basketball in this country.

“Austin’s participation in Basics from 5th-9th grade set the stage for his growth as a player. It was clear his court vision, ball handling skills, shooting form and defensive positioning were sharpened because of Basics training.  He is getting significant playing time now at Calvin College.”  Steve Bykerk, dad of Austin Bykerk (Hudsonville Unity Christian)

  1. League Fatigue: leagues are a default mechanism. There is a better choice.
  2. Normal Improvement: is extremely difficult because of the many obstacles these kids must overcome.
  3. Confidence is earned.  No tricks, no short cuts.
  4. Try Out Tips: tangible and intangible tips for handling the pressure
